The U.S. has maintained its measles elimination status — despite experiencing its worst year for measles since 1992 — according to findings in MMWR.
A large outbreak began in New York City on September 30, 2018, and another began in nearby Rockland County the next day. The country's measles elimination status was threatened as the 1-year mark for continuous transmission in these areas neared.
