Do statin-treated patients with diabetes, atherosclerotic cardiovascular (CV) disease, or both, plus elevated triglyceride levels, have worse outcomes than patients with optimal triglyceride levels? To answer this question, industry-funded researchers used administrative claims data for 50,000 patients and compared outcomes of statin-treated adults (age, ≥45) with diabetes or CV disease and elevated triglycerides (i.e., ≥150 mg/dL) with similar patients whose triglyceride levels were <150 mg/dL and whose HDL cholesterol levels were >40 mg/dL.
