Most patients with acute pancreatitis have an uncomplicated course and recover with conservative treatment. However, little information exists about outcomes of acute pancreatitis in the very elderly.
In a recent large retrospective study, researchers compared outcomes between 115 patients aged ≥80 years and 236 patients aged 65 to 79 years who were admitted to one emergency department with acute pancreatitis. The groups had similar baseline rates of cardiac, pulmonary, and renal comorbidities.
