Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is increasingly used to treat patients with critical aortic valve stenosis who are deemed too high risk to undergo surgical valve replacement (SAVR). The relative risk for prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) in patients undergoing TAVR versus SAVR has not been definitively studied in multicenter trials. To examine this risk, researchers examined a pooled cohort of 8530 patients from PARTNER trials and registries.
