Colonic volvulus and acute colonic pseudo-obstruction (ACPO) are emergencies for which gastroenterologists are frequently consulted. Both disorders can be associated with poor outcomes without prompt recognition and management. This guideline provides an updated assessment of the role of endoscopy in the management of volvulus and ACPO.
For patients with either volvulus or ACPO, seek prompt surgical consultation in the presence of complications (such as signs of ischemia or peritonitis).
