The optimal resection method for sessile serrated lesions (SSLs) of size 10 to 19 mm is unclear. To investigate this issue, researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 14 studies reporting the outcomes and safety of polypectomy methods for 1137 SSLs ≥10 mm. The primary outcome was the pooled residual SSL rate at the first surveillance colonoscopy.
Results were as follows:
Median polyp size was 19 mm, median time to first surveillance colonoscopy was 12 months, 91% were right-sided, and 59% required piecemeal resection.
Surveillance data were available for 832 lesions, and the residual SSL rate was 4.3%.
Complete macroscopic resection was accomplished in 99.5% of cases, and the rate of complete histologic resection (R0) was 78…
