Although specific genes have been found to be related to individual psychiatric disorders, a recent analysis in a large multidiagnostic population (>60,000 participants; 5 disorders) found that many genes are shared across disorders (i.e., pleiotropy). Now, the same research group has analyzed a much larger sample— 232,964 patients and 494,162 controls of European ancestry — and eight disorders (anorexia nervosa, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder [ADHD], autism spectrum disorder [ASD], bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder [MDD], obsessive-compulsive disorder [OCD], schizophrenia, and Tourette syndrome [TS]).
