Despite recent approvals of new therapies for advanced urothelial cancer, only a small percentage of patients are long-term survivors. In the prior industry-sponsored, double-blind, randomized, phase III RANGE study, investigators reported that, at a median follow-up of 5.0 months, combining ramucirumab (an IgG1 vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 [VEGFR-2] agonist) with docetaxel significantly prolonged progression-free survival (PFS; the primary endpoint) in patients with advanced disease (4.07 vs. 2.76 months; hazard ratio, 0.757; P=0.0118; NEJM JW Oncol Hematol Nov 2017 and Lancet 2017; 390:226).
