Prior research has shown that patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) are at increased risk for colorectal cancer (CRC; e.g., Clin Gastroenterol Hepatol 2012; 10:639). But past data may not necessarily reflect newer surveillance and treatment options.
Now, investigators in Denmark and Sweden have conducted a population-based cohort study to compare CRC incidence and mortality from 1969 through 2017 between 96,000 UC patients and 949,000 individuals from the general population matched by age, sex, and residence (controls).
