Ferric carboxymaltose (FC) and ferric derisomaltose (FD) are intravenous iron formulations that were developed to rapidly correct iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in patients who are intolerant or resistant to oral iron. Prior studies have shown that the use of FC is associated with hypophosphatemia due to increased urinary loss mediated by increased concentrations of fibroblast growth factor 23. Other studies have suggested that the risk for hypophosphatemia is lower with FD than with FC. However, no head-to-head comparisons of the two formulations have been conducted.
