The 2019 novel coronavirus epidemic that has emerged from Wuhan, China, appears to have the potential to have a major health impact on a worldwide basis. Formerly called 2019-nCoV, the virus is now taxonomically termed SARS-CoV-2; the WHO has named the clinical condition COVID-19. While we will continue our usual coverage of the latest infectious diseases' literature, the NEJM Journal Watch editorial boards are aiming to provide very rapid coverage of the latest research on the novel coronavirus.
