Opioid use disorder (OUD) among pregnant women rose from 1.5 to 6.5 cases per 1000 hospital births from 1999 to 2014, and consequent neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) rose from 1.5 to 8.0 per 1000 hospital births from 2004 to 2014. Effective treatment for OUD (including pharmacotherapy) is established but often unavailable or inaccessible.
