Methods to detect atrial fibrillation (AF) are becoming increasingly sensitive. The ongoing, partially manufacturer-funded, randomized, controlled LOOP Study (NCT02036450) is designed to test whether screening for AF with an implantable loop recorder (ILR) could reduce stroke risk in people aged 70 and older with one or more risk factors for stroke and no history of AF. As part of that study, investigators sought to compare a battery of screening strategies simulated from the data collected from the 590 participants in the ILR arm who were continuously monitored for 40 months.
