Rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have risen during recent years, especially among adolescents and young adults. As STIs are associated with susceptibility to HIV infection, CDC and the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force recommend HIV testing when an acute STI has been diagnosed — but adherence to such guidelines is poor. In a retrospective analysis of data from two urban pediatric and adolescent primary care clinics, researchers examined likelihood of HIV testing within 90 days after detection of incident STIs in an adolescent primary care setting; they also sought to identify patient- and practice-related factors associated with testing.
