Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other stress-related disorders, such as acute stress reaction and adjustment disorder, might increase dementia risk. To examine this potential association, researchers in Sweden conducted a population-matched and sibling-cohort study. Stress-related and neurodegenerative diagnoses were determined by national registry data. Neurodegenerative diseases were categorized as primary (all-cause dementia, Alzheimer disease, Parkinson disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) or vascular-related.
