After lower-extremity revascularization for peripheral artery disease (PAD), patients generally receive antiplatelet therapy. In the industry-sponsored, placebo-controlled, randomized VOYAGER PAD trial (NCT02504216), researchers sought to determine whether a direct-acting oral anticoagulant, added to aspirin, conferred additional benefit.
Nearly 6600 patients who had undergone lower-extremity endovascular or surgical revascularization within the previous 10 days received either aspirin alone (100 mg daily) or aspirin plus rivaroxaban (2.5 mg twice daily).
