Hereditary adenomatous polyposis syndromes include familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), attenuated FAP (AFAP), and MUTYH-associated polyposis (MAP). These syndromes are rare but are associated with markedly increased risk for colorectal and extracolonic malignancies. This new guideline summarizes the state of evidence regarding the role of endoscopy for screening and surveillance in this patient population.
Refer for genetic testing and counseling patients with suspected polyposis (≥10 adenomas at one examination or ≥20 over a lifetime) and first-degree relatives of confirmed cases.
