Recent data have shown improved tolerability of cefazolin over anti-staphylococcal β-lactams (ASBs) in the treatment of invasive Staphylococcus aureus infections. However, little comparison exists between ASBs, and the data that are available show reduced discontinuation due to adverse events and less hypokalemia with oxacillin compared with nafcillin. To shed further light, researchers examined reports of adverse events with nafcillin and oxacillin to the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System database between October 2003 and March 2018.
