Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is 50% heritable, meaning that 50% of the variability in AUD is due to genetic differences. The impact of rearing environment is not clear, however. To learn more, researchers examined data from large Swedish national registries to compare risk in full- or half-siblings who were home-reared versus adopted-away (1316 full-sibling pairs and 4623 half-sibling pairs). The full-sibling pairs had at least one high-risk biological parent; in the half-sibling pairs, the shared parent was high-risk.
