In this phase 2, industry-sponsored randomized trial, researchers studied whether daridorexant, a dual orexin-receptor antagonist, was safe and effective in treating insomnia in 58 adults aged ≥65 years (67% female). Daridorexant is not FDA-approved.
After completing an electronic sleep diary and a 2-night sleep study, participants received five consecutive treatments for 2 nights each, with a 5- to 12-day washout period in between treatments. The treatments were placebo or 5, 10, 25, or 50 mg of daridorexant, in randomized order. During the 2 days of each treatment period, participants underwent a sleep study to determine their wake after sleep onset (WASO) and latency to persistent sleep (LPS) and completed electronic sleep diaries.
