Models for the prediction of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) are critically important as they inform the decision about employing implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). In adults with HCM, the risk for SCD has been associated with syncope, massive left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy, nonsustained ventricular tachycardia, family history of SCD, and scarring on MRI. However, whether the same risk factors predict SCD in pediatric patients with HCM is not clear. To learn more, researchers examined clinical features associated with SCD in a large international cohort of pediatric patients with HCM; there were 572 patients with 2855 patient-years of follow-up (NCT04036799).
