The lifetime prevalence of trichotillomania is around 0.5% in the U.S. Behavioral therapy with habit-reversal training (BT-HRT) is likely effective for reducing hair-pulling, but the FDA has approved no medications for the disorder. To identify the most effective treatments, researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis, which included almost twice the number of studies in previous meta-analyses.
