In a retrospective cohort study, researchers evaluated clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with neurologic disease at one hospital in Brescia, Italy, over a 6-week period, comparing those with and without coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Of the 173 patients included, 56 (32%) had COVID-19. These patients were older and had higher mortality risk per admission quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA; score of 0.9 vs. 0.5) than the uninfected patients. More COVID-19 patients were admitted for cerebrovascular disorders (77% vs. 58%), but the distribution of TIA, ischemic stroke, and hemorrhagic stroke was similar in infected and uninfected patients.
