For a long time, people have debated whether funding sources influence clinical trials. These investigators have evaluated the design, outcomes, and reporting of 216 trials of cardiac devices and interventional procedures in relation to the studies' funding sources.
The trials were conducted from January 2008 through May 2019, and 115 (53%) were funded by industry. The median sample size was 502; median follow-up was 12 months. Almost 80% of the trials had 80% power to detect a treatment effect of 30%. About 80% had a superiority design, and 91% used an intention-to-treat population for the main analysis.
