Based on a systematic review of studies in which more than half of participants were women or adolescent girls, the WPSI has developed recommendations aimed at screening for anxiety disorders, especially in the primary care setting.
Screening instruments (e.g., Patient Health Questionnaire-4, Bright Futures Pediatric Symptom Checklist–Youth Report) are moderately to highly accurate for diagnosing anxiety in adults, pregnant or postpartum women, and adolescents.
Screening for anxiety is recommended in teens aged ≥13 and women, particularly those who have not been recently screened.
