Patients with unruptured arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) of the brain can present with a variety of clinical symptoms — such as headaches, seizures, and focal deficits — or, at times, they may be completely asymptomatic. Prior results of the multicenter, nonblinded, randomized, controlled ARUBA trial (Lancet 2014; 383:614) showed that, at a mean follow-up of 33.3 months, the risk for death or symptomatic stroke was greater with interventional therapy plus medical management than with medical management alone for unruptured AVMs. The ARUBA investigators now provide results at a mean follow-up of 50.4 months.
