EUS-guided gallbladder drainage (EUS-GB) involves transmural placement of a lumen-apposing metal stent from the stomach or the duodenum to the gallbladder to treat cholecystitis and biliary colic. To date, almost all studies of EUS-GB focus on patients considered poor surgical candidates, usually due to comorbidities. As such, EUS-GB has mostly been viewed as an alternative to percutaneous cholecystostomy tube placement. In a recent single-center, retrospective study, investigators compared outcomes of EUS-GB and laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) for acute cholecystitis in 60 propensity score–matched patients (30 per procedure).
