Does Uterine Septum Transection Improve Outcomes in Women with Recurrent Pregnancy Loss?

Probably not, according to a small prospective cohort study.

Hysteroscopic metroplasty is commonly suggested for women with a septate uterus and history of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL; defined as ≥2 documented pregnancy losses before 10 weeks' gestation), a recommendation primarily based on retrospective studies. Now, U.S. investigators have conducted a prospective observational cohort study at a single university medical center. Thirty-two participants (mean age, 35) had a history of RPL, septate uterus diagnosed with office hysteroscopy and three-dimensional ultrasonography, and at least one subsequent pregnancy. In all, 21 women underwent metroplasty and 11 did not (comparator group).
