Deep enteroscopy is a technically complex procedure that requires prolonged examination times in order to view the long and twisty small bowel. The current single-and double-balloon devices require meticulous technique and a lot of patience. Total enteroscopy with visualization of the entire small intestine is difficult to achieve, even utilizing antegrade and retrograde approaches.
