Two papers describe the safety, reactogenicity, and immune response to two candidate COVID-19 vaccines.
In a phase 1/2 multicenter U.K. trial, investigators randomly assigned 1077 healthy adults (18–55 years; median age, 35 years; 91% white) 1:1 to receive intramuscular chimpanzee adenovirus-vectored vaccine expressing SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (ChAdOx1nCoV-19) or intramuscular meningococcal vaccine. Vaccine dose was 5×1010 viral particles. Two of five study sites allowed prophylactic paracetamol. Ten participants received a second dose 28 days later.
