Some clinicians order second bone-mineral density (BMD) tests within a few years after baseline testing. Investigators sought to determine whether these second tests provide additional meaningful information on fracture risk beyond that established by a baseline BMD alone in older women.
In this prospective study, investigators used data from the Women's Health Initiative on almost 7500 postmenopausal women (mean age at baseline, 66) who had not received bisphosphonates, selective estrogen-receptor modulators, or calcitonin.
