The excess risk for complications when gestational age exceeds 39 weeks is well known, but few data address whether nulliparity, independent of age, is associated with increased risk for adverse outcomes. In this secondary analysis of 39,870 births to low-risk women delivering between 39 0/7 and 41 6/7 weeks at 25 U.S. hospitals, investigators examined maternal and newborn outcomes in nulliparous compared with multiparous women.
