Some urology practices in the U.S. have begun offering high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) as a treatment option for patients with prostate cancer; HIFU ablates localized areas of the prostate, with the goal of sparing patients the morbidity of whole-gland therapy. In this single-center study from Florida, researchers report short-term outcomes with use of HIFU in 52 patients with localized prostate cancer (70% Grade Group 2 or higher; mean prostate-specific antigen [PSA] level, 6.8 ng/mL).
