In the ongoing worldwide COVID-19 epidemic, there is an urgent need to stratify patients according to risk for death in order to optimize management and critical care allocation. Several COVID-19–specific scores and evaluations of standard, well-characterized disease severity scores in this special patient population have already been presented (NEJM JW Infect Dis Oct 2020 and Eur Respir J 2020 Jul 2; [e-pub]). Now, an international coronavirus consortium has presented a prediction tool derived from an ongoing prospective cohort study in 260 hospitals across England, Scotland, and Wales.
