Although benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) can be diagnosed easily and treated by the astute clinician, recurrences are common and often quite disruptive. Attacks of BPPV can result in missed work and significant disruption of daily activities in those afflicted. Vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency has gained attention in recent years as a possible contributing factor to BPPV because prevalence is higher in BPPV patients than in controls. However, previous reports lacked prospective controlled methodology.
