In 2015, the VA/DoD issued a guideline on management of dyslipidemia for primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events (NEJM JW Gen Med Aug 1 2015 and Ann Intern Med 2015; 163:291). The guideline has now been updated, with a focus on preventing CVD-related mortality.
Treat patients with dyslipidemia to achieve target statin dosing (not to achieve a target LDL cholesterol level), based on 10-year CVD risk.
