Of the four available sodium–glucose cotransporter (SGLT)-2 inhibitors, three (canagliflozin [Invokana], dapagliflozin [Farxiga], and empagliflozin [Jardiance]) have approved indications to lower certain cardiovascular (CV) and renal risks — in addition to their original indications to improve glycemic control in type 2 diabetes. In contrast, the most recently marketed SGLT-2 inhibitor, ertugliflozin (Steglatro), carries only the glycemic-control indication.
