It is unclear whether the timing of dietary gluten introduction is associated with the onset of celiac disease in children. As part of the open label Enquiring About Tolerance (EAT) trial, 1004 infants in England and Wales were randomized to early (4 months of age) or standard (after 6 months of age) gluten introduction. Gluten consumption and symptoms were monitored using dietary questionnaires, and participants were tested for celiac disease serologies (antitransglutaminase type [TG2] antibodies) at 3 years of age.
