In premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), ovarian function ceases prior to age 40. For women with POI, excess risk for osteoporosis or fractures is a major concern. Hormone therapy (HT) represents a mainstay of treatment for these women; however, which approach to HT most effectively maintains bone mineral density (BMD) remains uncertain.
