Maladaptive daydreaming has been described as daydreaming with an addictive or compulsive quality, occurring many hours per day and accompanied by subjective distress, interference with functioning, and significant comorbidity. Typically, the individual does not confuse the complex plots and characters comprising these daydreams with ordinary reality.
