Pregnancy appears to be a risk factor for severe COVID-19 illness, and infection with SARS-CoV-2 virus might predispose to preterm birth and pregnancy loss. COVID-19 has been with us for the better part of a year, providing sufficient cases for researchers to measure the extent of these adverse effects on pregnancy and neonatal outcomes.
Using data from the Surveillance for Emerging Threats to Mothers and Babies Network (SET-NET), the authors found that 5252 women with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 between March 29 and October 14, 2020, gave birth to 3912 live infants of known gestational age.
