In the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, various neurologic disorders were associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection in individual case reports, limited case series, and cohort studies. These include encephalopathy, ischemic stroke (including stroke of the young), and Guillain-Barré syndrome. Few prospective data are available based on standard neurologic-syndrome and COVID-19 definitions. Now, researchers have prospectively identified and followed 4491 inpatients hospitalized with COVID-19 (confirmed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction [RT-PCR] testing for SARS-CoV-2) at four hospitals within the same New York City health system over a 10-week period.
