The 9-valent human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine protects against 90% of strains implicated in HPV-related cancers. In 2017, a two-dose regimen was approved for patients aged 9 to 14 years. Now, researchers have conducted an international study to evaluate the duration of antibody response to the two-dose regimen in boys and girls (age range, 9–14) compared with the three-dose regimen in women (age range, 16–26). In all, 1508 enrollees received two doses at baseline and 6 or 12 months, or three doses at baseline, 2 months, and 6 months.
Results at 36 months included the following:
Antibody levels in girls and boys who received vaccine at age 9 to 14 years were higher for all HPV serotypes than in women who received three doses.
