The potential benefit of convalescent plasma for treating patients with COVID-19 has only been shown recently, when a report indicated that plasma with higher anti–SARS-CoV-2 antibody titers administered early in the disease course lowered risk for death from COVID-19 (NEJM JW Infect Dis Jan 12 2021 [e-pub] and N Engl J Med 2021 Jan 6; [e-pub]). Now, data from a large retrospective cohort study support this strategy. Researchers analyzed the influence by titer of anti–SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibodies in convalescent plasma given to 3082 patients at 680 U.S. acute care facilities during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
