The magnitude and duration of protective immunity among COVID-19 convalescents is debated. In a population-wide study using data from the SARS-CoV-2 national infection reporting system in Austria, researchers have addressed this issue. They examined rates of reinfection during the second COVID-19 wave (between September 1 and November 30, 2020) among 14,840 individuals who had recovered from COVID-19 during the first wave (between February and April 30, 2020) compared with primary infection rates in the remaining Austrian population of 8.9 million.
