A single dose of vaccine elicited a strong humoral immune response in those with prior SARS-CoV-2 infection, but efficacy was not tested.

Although the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are given in two doses per the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), a single-dose regimen in certain populations can potentially stretch the limited supply. Investigators evaluated binding and neutralizing antibody (Ab) responses to one dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccine in 59 healthcare workers (median age, 39) at a single U.S. medical institution. Participants were categorized into three groups (negative for SARS-CoV-2 IgG Ab, positive for IgG Ab with no previous COVID-19 symptoms, and positive for IgG Ab with previous symptomatic infection).
