In the PREVENT trial, 143 adult patients with aquaporin-4 (AQP4) immunoglobin G (IgG) seropositive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) were randomized in a 2:1 ratio to receive eculizumab or placebo, and eculizumab treatment reduced the risk of an adjudicated relapse by 94% (NEJM JW Neurol Aug 2019 and N Engl J Med 2019; 381:614). Patients enrolled in the PREVENT trial could enroll in the open-label extension at study end or after experiencing a physician-determined relapse.
