Lacunar strokes are small, deep brain infarcts typically associated with restricted clinical symptoms such as isolated unilateral weakness or sensory loss. While lacunar strokes are common in patients with conventional risk factors, the potential role of genetic factors is unclear.
Investigators conducted a pooled analysis of patients with lacunar stroke from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and recruited others from the International Stroke Genetics Consortium, as well as subjects with white-matter hyperintensities (WMH), a condition related to lacunar stroke.
