Late-Breaking Clinical Trial presented at the 2021 Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology
The treatment benefit of the cardiac myosin activator omecamtiv mecarbil in patients with heart failure is greatest in those with the lowest baseline ejection fraction (EF), according to a secondary analysis of the industry-funded GALACTIC-HF trial presented on May 17, 2021, at the Annual Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology. In the trial, some 8200 patients with heart failure and EF ≤35% were randomized to omecamtiv mecarbil or placebo. Incidence of the primary composite outcome of time to first heart-failure event or cardiovascular death was lower in the omecamtiv group (hazard ratio, 0.92).
