As the life expectancy of persons living with HIV (PLWH) lengthens thanks to modern antiretroviral therapy, issues related to aging and management of co-morbidities assume increasing importance. Managing aging PLWH often involves treatment of a wide variety of common conditions (i.e., hypertension, hyperlipidemia, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, COPD, osteoporosis, degenerative joint diseases, chronic pain, depression, and anxiety), necessitating prescription of numerous medications and leading to drug interactions, adverse reactions, and decreased adherence to antiretrovirals.
